We need to update the images we have in our heads about what the Northpole is. (Jonas Gahr Støre) Foto: Knut Bry/tinagent.com
”In deep water” – two performers and a camera at the intersection between the natural sciences, foreign affairs and art.
More people have walked on the moon, than on the deep ocean floor. On The 2 august 2007 the Russians planted their flag on the seabed beneath the Northpole – the race has started ! From a divingboard with fins and swim-bladder the perfomers throw themselves in deep water.
Where the arctic explorers Nansen and Johansen turned, Hestad and Slaatto take us to the Northpole, under the ice, to the seafloor, to plant the norwegian flag.
The performance is moving across and between 3 perspectives. Inspired by the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støres pronouncements about the three main tracks for Norway’s High North strategy: Activity, Presence and Knowlegde.
Støre participates on film, which has been particularly filmed for this occasion.
Everything depends on where we stand and what perspective we choose.
3 artforms, 3 perspectives, – one project in deep water.
